Margaree Vacation Farmhouse:
Spend a week, two, or a month in a haven along the Margaree River where time
stopped a century ago, and where the last fierce sounds of the Gaelic still
murmur in the mists of early morning (if you have the ear). We will direct
you to the hidden vista of the Egypt Falls - a veritable Shangri-La known
only to the MacFarlane Clan until a few decades ago.
A quaint old house, grudgingly updated with a washer and dryer, satellite
dish, TV, VCR, central heat, microwave and a modern bathroom. Where the
nearest neighbour is 'across the brook', 'down the road apiece', or up in
the rugged hills, but as near as the telephone for a ceilidh and a cup of
tea.
You'll love the quiet of a back road in the highland heart of Cape Breton,
but only thirty minutes away through the hills and valleys to Mabou, famous
for its talented Scottish musicians and dancers - Inverness by the sea, with
its wild beaches, the new 18-hole scenic Cabot Links golf course, one of a kind next to Scotland,
and its time-forgotten shops along the main street and to
the north along the winding Margaree River, Margaree Forks, the sports fishing
'Mecca of Cape Breton'. Enjoy the sights around the Cabot Trail, a visit to the
Alexander Graham Bell Museum, or to the Fortress at Louisbourg.
Throughout the day and at various times you may observe soaring eagles
flying over the property and alighting on trees on the bank of the river
behind the house.
People who have come to our home have commented that it is "a home away from
home". We hope if you come that you, too, will experience that peace, quiet
and enjoy the culture and activities in the area.
